What’s your favourite jighead for swimbaits

Featured Replies

The last few years I’ve had pretty good success with rage swimmers in 3“and 4” sizes, and this year I’m trying a few other types of bodies. Just wondering what everyone uses for a head, I’m looking for mainly open water, non-weedless types as I’m mainly swimming them in open areas for smallies.

Me too ~

I throw them on spinning gear 10-15 lb braid & an 8 or 10lb usually mono leader.

These are all fairly light wire hooks that penetrate easily on the end of a long cast with just a reel set hook set.

While none of these are 'traditional' swimbait heads - they get the job done for me.

I've had decent success with the Keitech Super Round Tungsten Jig Head - 1/4 with either the 2/0 or 3/0 hook

The Gamakatsu Round Jig Head - same 1/4 2/0 or 3/0 hook

If I need to go or stay deeper with a heavier head (or in the wind)

The Gamakatsu Football Jig Head 3/8 oz with 2/0 gets the call.

Cabela's mean eye jigs. Long enough shank and a decent keeper. No fancy swimbait heads for me, fish don't care.

Thanks, I’ll check them out. I’m in the same boat, don’t need a fancy fish looking head, just a plain lead head works fine for me too.

Trokar are the sharpest these have a stout short shank hook as well for better body movement and on sale at tackle warehouse.

Doesn't look like theyve got a plain lead head which would be my only complaint. But theres black and white if you want to use it with different colored swimbaits.

Can’t go wrong with a Dirty Jigs Matt Allen Swimbait Head. As far as I know, those things are special, give a real nice action to the swimbait.

I use the owner beast hooks -- but they're weedless if that matters.
