So im looking at getting a frog rod. The frog rod i was looking at a st croix bass x 7'4'' heavy fast rod. Im also looking at getting a rod for fishing big worms (12''), and throwing jigs i was looking at some mojo rod 7'10'' heavy fast rod. I was curious what other people think especially about the jig/big worm rod.

I tried one of the Bass X rods, but I wasn't impressed with it. It is a very tip heavy rod, I ended up returning it. The Falcon Bucco Amistad would be a nice rod. I feel that the Falcon Rods spec's are a bit lighter than rated.

 

There are the Powell Endurance rods on sale at Tackle Warehouse. Powell makes some nice rods.

 

 

I tried a H/fast rod for jigging based on a couple of people's suggestions.  I didn't like it. I went back to a MH/Fast.  Unless I'm throwing it in heavy cover of course. 

That Bucco Amistad is a nice rod - I've looked at it alot and nearly bought it, only a matter of time before I go ahead and pull the trigger.  IMO the Low Rider Amistad is a better rod, that's probably the one I'll pop for.  I'd use it for heavier jigs, my home made jika rigs, maybe a Biffle Bug, stuff like that.   I can't speak to the other rods mentioned or the Bass X rods.

 

I don't own any 12" worms, but I throw 10" worms quite a bit.  Over the years I've tried a number of rods, I keep coming back to my original All Star WR1.  6'6" MH fast action, with a tip like no other IMO.  That rod just gives me the most confidence, and when I feel that little tick and the fish darts to the other side of the tree, I'm very confident that I can yank that fish out.  ( I fish 17 or 20 lb Seaguar Abrazx).  Over the years, I just don't feel that an ultra long rod is necessary for throwing 10" worms.  

I use a 7'3 Heavy for Jigs/worms. I enjoy mine, Budget friendly Duckett Ghost. 

 

6'6 MH/F for Frog. Bit lighter than most

Frogs and flip/pitch into heavy cover I use an H/F

Jigs and big worms - especially heavier T-Rigs (1/2 oz and up) I use a MH/F

 

In the same price range, look at the Dobyns Fury.

I think the MH and Heavy St. Croix rods are very thick, heavy and as someone above said especially in the tip.  Dobyns are not a light weight rods either but much better balanced than St. Croix IMO.  Daiwa Tatula, Abu and others are good options around the $100-125 mark.  If you decide to spend more, the ALX Toadface is exactly what you are describing for frogs, jigs... Hybrid rod that has a Heavy butt section, MH tip to walk a frog.  Very good sensitivity for jigs too.

I have a custom built on that 74hf blank and love it.  Frogs jigs and -swaiver 168s are all good on that blank.  

I use a Diawa Tatula 2018 model Heavy/fast 7'1" specifically for frogs and also use it with 1/2oz jigs and 11" worms. I found mine discounted on Ebay when they first came out.
