Ball Head Jigs and Weedgaurds

Most of the time, I Texas rig my soft plastics, due to milfoil weed growth in the lakes I fish. I still like to fish ball head jigs, with grubs, tubes, smaller worms etc. I've tried straight wire weedgaurds, plastic V shape, bristle style, and the older wire type that hooks under the barb on the hook. The bristle type has worked best. Some of the thin wire gaurds havnt been much good at all. What type of weedgaurds have you had good luck with on ball head jigs?

No weed guards of any kind for me... Brewer's Spider heads, Title-Shot heads or weighted wide-gap hooks (sled heads) when I'm protecting the hook point.

Some of the lakes locally that I fish eliminate all jigging techniques with jig heads due to algae/vegetation growth.

I've had the best luck with bristle guards but even better by simply shoving in a tungsten weight on desired bait and hooking weedless when battling the aquatic jungle.

I like the question.   Like @OkobojiEagle, I don't have a good answer for making ballhead jigs weedless; I have alternatives.....I love Brewer's spider/sled/slider head weighted hooks and Owner's ultrahead finesse weighted hooks.

I like using a fiber guard for brush, wood, and weeds and I use different sizes depending on cover and jig size. Wire weed guards have their place as well, they are better for wood and rock.

I use the ball-heads with bristle-type guard for grubs and little paddle-tail swimbaits. The ones I like the best are the Owner Brush head. I thin the guard by about half because I don't typically use ball-heads on plastics around heavy cover (I use a t-rigged option instead).  But for most plastics, most of the time I use the heads that permit t-rigging mentioned above, like a slider, Title-Shot, VMC rugby head, or Owner finesse ultraheads.

What I’ve found fishing heavy cover is Texas rigging the bait with a hook and then putting a hook weight on.
