Epoxy around guides issue on new rod--cause for concern?

Featured Replies

I picked up a Quantum 7' KVD Medium heavy crankbait rod for around $80 on a good sale from Tackle Warehouse around the holidays. I have used it a couple of times and like the rod so far. However, I did notice that the epoxy around most of the guides seems to have air under it, and while fishing in light rain the other day I noticed that water will get underneath the epoxy and touch the thread wraps in some of these spots.

I am on the fence on whether or not I should send this back as a warranty claim and try my luck with a new one. May not be a big deal but the water getting in seems concerning. Looking for some thoughts on how much of a problem this really is to the rod's longevity, performance, etc, and if it would be worth the $20 or so in freight to send it back.

Photos of a few of the guides are attached. Thank you in advance for helping ease my mind.

I'd send back. That would bug me on a new rod. Fishable? Sure but you'll end up wanting those guides rewrapped in the future at $15-$20 ea. TW will take care of you for sure.

I don't have much confidence that the replacement of the same rod would be different...

I’m not sure if I’m looking at moisture under the epoxy or glare from the lighting. The epoxy doesn’t look terrible other than being on the heavy side.

Id have to agree. Your replacement may be worse off. Also as long as you have your rod tube, your good to send it back. Just attach your prepaid shipping label. Print off or inclose receipt, drop it off at ups. theyll print out a receipt with a tracking number.

Send to pics to TW and request a exchange rod without excessive epoxy and get a authorization. Mass produced rods from China you are the quality control so exercise it.
