What is a medium + power rod ?? For poison Adrena

Featured Replies

I’m looking at the Shimano poison Adrena and it says it’s a 6 ft 11 inch medium + rod.. what does the + mean.. is it in the middle of a medium and MH rod ?

That's how I took it. I had the expride light + spinning rod and it had some extra power over your typical light action rod. Take a look at the Destroyer 110 special too.

I have the rod and use it for 3/16 - 1/4 oz T-Rigs. I have yet to even try it with a moving or reaction bait because it is simply an awesome rod for those T-Rigs. I would say it has a bit of a softer tip than my Zodias 6'10 MH but it seems to have more backbone. I have 2 Zodias 6'10 MH and a Zodias 7'2 MH that I use for different bottom contact techniques. I wish I could afford to replace all of them with the Poison Adrena lol

But I got skunked yesterday, so you should probably take my advice with a grain of salt :)

Bingo.

That’s what it means in the case of the MMH Daiwa Ehrler baitcasting rod... in between.  However in the case of the MH+ ALX Toadface it means the tip is MH and the butt is Heavy.  So it can mean difference things or action.  Might be worth calling the manufacturer for a detailed explanation.

I like ALX a lot ! Most of my rod quiver is ALC but I’m trying to venture out.

There are no industry standards or definitions for any of the label designations. This is important to keep in mind comparing across brands and even across models within brands.

My best guess would be that it’s an “in between” power. Not a true medium, but not quite a medium heavy. That’s pretty similar to the ALX designations like frydog mentioned - toadface (MH+), trickster (light+), etc.

I haven’t fished many shimano rods so I can’t say for certain what their medium or medium heavy feels like compared to say the alx dream/deputy models. I’m sure they feel quite different.

I like my filet mignon medium rare+.

I have one of the 611m+ rods.  It’s a strange rod, it isn’t great at 1/4oz, like a weighless Trickworm, but at like 3/8-3/4oz  it shines.  It even casts a 1oz glidebait way better then it should.

It’s close to a Loomis 783c, but with a stiffer tip and maybe a little more power in the butt.  The PA is an outstanding rod and I am going to use it for lighter t-rigs and 1/4oz jigs.
