Swinghead Jigs

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever thrown these around grass much?  I know they are more intended for rocky structure but fishing mainly soft bottom ponds and small lakes, there isnt much rock to throw these at where i'm located.  If you have used them in grass, how well did they work and also, let me know your thoughts on best plastics to pair these up with.

yes! i swim them in grass all the time, and typically swim a worm on them if it really calm & slick water. Put a 7' strike king rage cut r worm on there in hard candy. they chew it! also a strike king rage craw slow rolled on the bottom will get you some bites

I've thrown them around grass edges a bit and have caught some big ones doing it.  It's definitely not the easiest bait to toss in grass but it can work, for sure.  The Biffle Bug is hard to beat but I also like Rage Bugs and Keitech crazy flappers.

It depends on the type of grass in your lake and the algae too. I can't use them in the warmer months at all. This winter was not cold enough long enough to kill off some of the grass and lots of the algae. I can't throw a Ned in my spots, so a swing head is out of the question. I just end up dredging slime and grass. It's still too cold to be picking off muck after each cast.

When throwing a "swinghead" in & around cover, especially soft bottom cover -

perhaps consider changing up your swinghead 'type'.

This one from Freedom Tackle is what works for me in those conditions.

"Slides" over & through most of that stuff pretty nicely.

Line tie closer to the nose vs anything near the top of the head is the deal.

I just use the head.  1/2 & 3/4 oz
