Curado DC on a Crankbait setup or light texas rig/jig setup?

Featured Replies

Well, the Bait Monkey has been hard on me this winter so I can only get one Curado DC before spring.

I was originally going to get one and use it on one of my dedicated Crankbait setups, St. Croix 610MM Legend Glass that I mainly throw 1.5 size squarebills with. It currently has a Curado 201K 6.2:1 reel and does fine.

I just got an NRX 853c for my finesse jig/light texas rig rod and now thinking I should get a DC for this rod instead.

I know the DC platform shines in windy conditions and throwing moving baits well but would I enjoy it better throwing jigs and t-rigs up to probably 1/2 oz.

Shop around, get a Bantam MGL or Met MGL

or

I used my Curado DC on a 704CB for a while throwing 1.5s.  It does just fine, but it did better once I moved it to my deeper cranking rod throwing 3/4oz+ lures.

Would be interesting for 1/2oz jigs IMO

I have been using mine with a St. Croix Legend Glass 7'2'' M and it has been fantastic.  I can cast pretty much whatever I want with it.  I have tried it for T-Rigged plastic and jigs on a different rod and it did just fine but I really like it with the Legend Glass, especially for those windy days where a crankbait can be difficult to cast.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards using it on the Legend Glass. I love fishing crankbaits and the LG is one of my favorite rods in my arsenal.

I'll use the Curado K that's on there now for a new swimbait rod I just bought.

Speaking of my Legend Glass, caught this guy Sunday on a Crush 75x on a semi warm day in the middle of February that I was lucky to be outside and fishing. :)

Nice fish.

Just a word of advice...  I have the same Muck boots but without the camo.  They are great but.....  If you go in, when you are in a kayak, even with a life vest, they will fill with water and take you straight under, quick.  Luckily for me I was about 5-6 feet of water when a guy came flying buy in a boat and his wake tipped my kayak over.   He did stop and make amends but sure did wake me up though.

I'm using mine on a Dobyns Champion 7.3 mhf glass rod. It does work best with heavier stuff. Lots of crankbaits here.  But I often just use it for lighter stuff instead of picking my my spinning rod. Seems to work fine. Then again I'm not picky.

The Curado DC and the glass rod combo though are such a pleasure to use. I look for opportunities to use it whenever I can. I've mentioned before. It's the only rod I've got that with a fish on it the fish fights the pole and the pole fights back. Love it.
