Which one?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at buying a new boat in the near future. I was wondering if it would be better to buy one brand new or to get a cheaper used one. I've bought several used boats in the past but they ended up being fixer upers… I'm starting to learn that B.O.A.T. really does mean break out another thousand. Would love to know your thoughts and ideas. Thank you

Until my current boat I always bought used, some very used.  For this one it's my last boat.  I feel that I'm not savvy enough to spot potential problems on what (for me) would be an expensive purchase so I paid the price for a new boat for my peace of mind.  Plus i was my retirement gift to me. Depreciation was not a concern since it will be sold by my estate.

That's all personal preference.  If you're aware of what to look out for and patient there can be some nice deals that'll save thousands on used boats. On the other hand there's nothing better than peace of mind that your new boat is covered should there be any problems.  Only you can determine if this peace of mind is worth the cost. I bought my first new boat last year and I hated spending that much but it's been nice that the cple of small problems I've had were fixed quickly and free of charge.  I have no concern of how the boat or motor were treated because I've put every hour on it myself.  Good luck!
