Line and Leader Question

Featured Replies

I have specific setups for Drop Shot, Ned and Shakey Head. To keep things simple could I use the same pound test braid and FC leader for these three setups. Also would you recommend high vis braid.

Yes and yes

Most of the time ~ I do.

10 lb Sufix 832 braid and 8lb Seaguar Tatsu leader.

I might bump the leader up to 10 lb if I'm throwing the shakey head somewhere I might need to move a fish a little; dock for example.

As for High-Vis Braid, while I know several very experienced & accomplished bassheads have gone that way with all kinds of success I might add, for whatever reason I still have that mental block about the High-Vis aspect.

So like George Costanza says,

"It's not you, It's me".

I guess the answer to my question is K.I.S.S.  :)

Was going to start a new thread but then saw one about line and leader so i figured I'd add a question to the convo.  How long of a leader do most of you guys throw on a typical rod.  Plan on using like 40 lb braid with a 12-14 pound izorline copoly leader.  Would be using this for swimbaits and other larger baits.  Seems kind of light but at the same time, i'm not in an area that i'm going to routinely catch fish larger than 5 lbs.  Thoughts on this set up and again, how long of a leader should I use?

Some are saying 10'-12'- that way you have plenty of leader when changing lures and won't have to splice as often.

My leader length is such that when I have the hook/lure on the hook keeper on the rod the leader does NOT go through the tip guide.  When the leader gets down to about 3 feet in length I start over.

Man I dislike George Costanza references. Nice to meet you A-Jay I'm Mark Costanza, no relation to George, thankfully. :happy-127:

And you wanted to be my latex salesman....

Yes to your question. I use yellow Power Pro in 15-20lb tied to 8lb FC Sniper most of the time. I would not hesitate to cut one of those lures off and tie on the other with the same rod/line combo. I do actually.

I use 8lb  high viz PP braid to 8lb fluoro or 6lb mono leader (same diameter line) for ned and drop shot, and 10lb braid to 10lb leader for shakey head for the hook set.
