Spool tension

Featured Replies

Is it really necessary to Back your spool tension knob off your reel after every outing? After reading I’ve found people recommend this to preserve the longevity of the reel.  I back my drag off but that’s it

I don't, but then all my reels have some spool side to side play, so it's sorta loose anyway.

I'm with 'The Hammer' - spool is loose for casting, so no need to back it off more.

The tension spacers aren’t springy so backing off isn’t going to do anything. Over tightening can dimple them and limit adjustment range though.
