Looking at a custom frog rod that can either be 7' or 7'6" for a great price and opportunity. What would you guys lean towards? Really hoping to also throw some A rigs and larger swimbaits so the 7'6 looks good but it's rated for 1/2- 1 1/2 so might not toss a frog well and the extra length might make walking frogs uncomfortable. 

 

What rod would be more suited to the frog and what would be most versatile?

7'6" is top rated at 1 1/2 oz..That will not throw larger swimbaits, unless your talking plastic paddle tails. The 7 footer will give you better accuracy for froggin, but will have issues with the other baits you listed. I use a 7'4" for froggin, and a 7'9" for some of the other baits you mentioned. If...it were me, I would give up a bit in accuracy and go for the 7'6". Of course this would depend on the cover your lake/lakes have.

You need to have it built on a different blank for what you want to use it for.

I like 7’ for frogs.  

There are 2 different conditions for froggin, target fishing and mat fishing.  The target fishing rod is 7' with a soft tip and you should be able to drop a frog into a dixie cup with it.  The mat rod is a 7'6" pool cue and with it you can drag a 7lbr across 50 feet of milfoil.  Which conditions do you fish?  Hope this helps.

Going with the 7'6" and I didn't mean the giant swimbaits rather say S waver 168 or a 6.8 ketiech with a beast hook. Those giant baits are easily over 2oz most of the time so that would be it's own animal. Hopefully it's comfortable and light enough to walk a frog and toss a small to medium Arig! 

 

We fish primarily michigan so the slop doesn't get overly nasty but can be thick if you know where to look. Id say we fish some slop but not the nasty nasty and open water frog fish over top of grass. 

I use a 7'2 mh thats stiffer than most mh. I wouldn't want a 7'6 rod to frog with myself.  I prefer a little softer rod than most for most things tho. Gonna boil down to personal preference.  You could for sure throw one on the longer rod but between the 2 I'd choose the 7 ft

I use a 7' 3", 7' 6" is longer than I'd like so I'd go with the 7' if that's your only option.

I use a 7’4 seems to be perfect for me.
