Hi i need help deciding what size bow mount trolling motor i should put on my 12 foot v-hull.I was thinking of putting a 101 on it just to have the extra power that i might need sometimes.

Most will say the strongest your money can buy, its always good to have the extra strength at times. However just remember there has to be room for batteries, a 101lb thrust is a 36 volt so 3 deep cycle batteries are needed, that is a lot of room and weight.

A 12' boat won't take much to push.  50-65# should be plenty.

Go with the largest TM you can afford.  Better to have the power and not need it than need it and not have it.

Thats alot of batteries to lift and carry.  Hopefully your batteries and motor can stay in the boat all year.

Three heavy batteries, a 101 TM, a fisherman or two and tackle could put a 12' vhull over its weight limit. While I usually go with as much TM as you can afford this is not a usual case.

You don't mention if you have an outboard motor but if you do I'd bet you would be over weight for the boat. Which can nullify insurance and result in tickets depending on your location

I have a 15 horse johnson on it.I think i will get a 70 pound trust. What do you think 65 or 70?I can keep the batteries in the boat all year long.

If you can afford a 101, 3 batteries, and a three bank charger I'm going to speculate you could afford a bigger boat.

A 101 is overkill.  It is a huge trolling motor and would be in comparison with throwing a weightless senko on a heavy rod with 40 lb braid.  You will be prepared for anything, but you will sacrifice usability.

get a 65.  with one big battery.  most user friendly set up and most thrust available for that setup while still more than you need for a 12 ft aluminum boat.
