Line Capacity

Featured Replies

I am new to using a baitcaster and really freshwater fishing all together. I just bought an Abu Garcia silver max which says it has a mono capacity of 12 pounds. Can I put 16 pound mono on the reel without any problems? Thank you.

Yes, #12 is just a suggested guideline.

The line capacity stated is just there to give you an idea of how much it'll hold. Larger line-test means less yards on the spool. 16# or even 20# shouldn't be an issue - you'll just have less of it than the 12#.

Line capacity is based on line diameter and that varies with each line brand used. For example 16 lb test Sunline Super Natural is smaller diameter then Berkley 12 lb Big Game.
