The "This old lure" thread...

Featured Replies

Just curious if any of the members here are familiar with this mouse lure? It is a Blimps lure co. Mr Mouse. He comes across the topwater with his head whoppin n ploppin and he puts out a squeak during the rotation better than any aged buzzbait you've ever used. And yes they do catch fish! They were first put out for sale 50 year ago and continued into the '90's.

If if you have an old or unique lure post us a pic on this thread and let's see and hear about it!

I got this this from a friend's old tackle box. It's called a Baby Bat, a topwater.

I used to have one exactly like that when I was a kid, but it was silver. Can’t remember if I ever caught anything on it, but it sure was a neat looking bait.

Tonight's lure is brought to you by Shakespeare. It is the Lucky Dog model. I'd guess this lure is from the 1960's and it is pristine in condition as if it were made today.

For show and tell... Sam Griffin Lures "The King of Topwater". Sam guided and designed his lures from his home on Okeechobee. You might recall his designs sold thru Luhr Jensen and others.

These lures are handcrafted from Sugar Pine and the boxed "Nippin Sam" is dated 1989. Other lure models pictured are the Lil Richard, Offset Sam, Florida Shad, Skinny Water Sam, Moonshine Special, among others I've yet to identify.

Hoping to see some older lures added to this thread!

When I was a kid I remember seeing ads in Field & Stream about the "Batwing"  sonic lure.  I didn't subscribe to the magazine, but I read it when I went to the county library, which was generally on a weekly basis.   Never got it together to actually buy the lure, don't know why.   I remember that in the advertising copy there were statements that the lure was soon to be " banned in several states!!!"    Years later, after I was out of college and I'd had a couple of advertising copy writing classes, I realized that none of the states where that lure was going to be banned  were geographical in nature.

Cool lure though - wish I had one - I'd throw it - looks like it would kinda waddle across the surface, like a crazy crawler, as long as you kept it moving.

Is that bat lure made out of plastic? From the photo, it looks like some kind of metal which would actually sink and not be topwater. Thanks.

Don't have pictures, but found a Mann's Pogo Shad and a Bomber Water Dog in the box on Sunday while helping the Inlaws clean out my MIL's brothers house.  Thought that was pretty cool!

Sort of similar to Marks bat. Here is some lures I think I got in a yard sale bought tacklebox once upon a time. These are some Buck Perrys spoon plugs from the '70s. They were sold in lots of 5 as well as individual so I suspect that is responsible for this family of 5 "frogs ".
