Should I put a mono leader on for my buzzbait

Featured Replies

I have either 14 or 17 lb test mono with 65lb maxcuatro braid so I can also use that rod for jig fishing some docks and some under water structure

I prefer to tie my buzzbaits to straight braid. Can’t see a reason for a mono leader unless you are concerned about pulling the bait away from fish and want some extra stretch.

A leader wouldn’t stretch enough to make any difference in that regard.  Only reason I could see for a leader would be a little stiffness to avoid fouling.

It's perfectly fine to run straight braid to buzzbaits......65# seems excessive though. Lol

Yea I only have two casting rods and I fish some knarly broking pilings and cracked cement called the spoils in the Potomac River so I take as much precaution not to break my line and this rod is also my top water rod?

Braid tends to abraid on sharp hard surfaces you discribe. You would be better off using straight 15-17 lb Big Game and change it more often.

I use a 3-5 ft 20lb seaguar abrazx leader for that reason but thanks

I'd use straight braid. A buzzbait is one lure where any line works about the same.
