Ghost River in TN

Featured Replies

First time fishing this river stretch with two buddies, super excited! I was told the water should be very clear. We are going 3 days from now and no rain in the forecast so the river shouldn’t rise. Now the questions comes down to what should I throw? I have never bass fished a river. I’m only taking 3 rods and minimal tackle. My first thoughts were a white buzzbait, a motor oil color worm or a weedless wacky in green pumpkin, and maybe this smaller Alabama rig I have. I was told also there is pike in the river. Would be neat to catch one!

Any tackle suggestions? Gonna pack light with natural color baits and June Bug colors just in case. Supposed to sunny also that day.

I think the pike referenced are probably pickeral. The things you mentioned should do well - maybe add a spinnerbait in there for target casting as the sun gets up and you float.

I don’t think pike or pickerel exist in TN, but maybe pickerel in a Mississippi River backwater in west Tennessee? I’ve also never heard of the ghost river but if there’s bass in a river, your lure choices should work very well

Forgot to follow up with this. Was a fun trip but me and the father n law flipped flipped our kayaks about 15 minutes in, I lost a cheap spinning reel and about $80 worth of tackle inside a small plano box that sunk. He lost this big bag of all kinds of stuff plus an expensive bait caster combo sunk. But we kept on and ended up finding some bass in the calm pools off the river in tall grass, all my bites were on a craw bait, the other guy was getting them wacky rigged. Did have like a 16" grinnel just make my buzz bait disappear too, no blow up, sucked it right under calmly. That dinosaur fish put up a good fight. Saw lots of copper heads too.
