I purchased an older Nitro and the foot pedal on the front doesn't have a continuous switch. It has a momentary enable switch plus a roller knob for speed select. Pretty annoying standing up on the rasied foot pedal the whole time just to keep moving. Doing that causing me to push on the pedal making it steer left and right constantly. Has anyone ever installed a On/Off switch to get around this? Wiring it would be simple, not sure how many amps are running through that switch though. Don't want to burn up a switch on accident. Motor is a 24V or 12V selectable, 55lb thrust.

If you have it on constant it will torque to the right so you will have to keep your foot on it anyway.

Can anyone speak for a recessed foot pedal? Amazon sells an insert:

The inserts make a a big difference if you're standing to fish. No more having one leg way up in the air. I would call a Nitro dealer to make sure you have enough room to install one. You don't want to cut through a strut on the deck. If you get one, I suggest finding someone who has installed one before. Don't forget you'll have to run the drain hose somewhere too. If your boat has a live weil on the front deck, it could drain into that without using the hose. Good luck

You must cut a retangular hole the deck to accommodate the recessed tray. Before you order the tray make sure what is under the deck before cutting the hole!

momentary on/off switch is normal for TM's without sonar steering or spot lock.

Buy the troll tamer and it’s no longer an issue though.  I doubt a 55lb thrust would even be that bad - assuming this is a 17’ boat
