circle hooks and octopus hooks

Featured Replies

Can you use these hooks for wacky rigs ? would it be a good idea ?  they both seem like they wouldn't get hung as much as the drop shot hooks.

I started with circle hooks and now am using octopus hooks (1 or 1/0). I seem to get better hook-ups with octopus hooks. All after reeling in the slack until tight (no true hook setting). Most hook-ups are in the upper lip near the jaw joint.

I've used the circle hooks quite a bit mostly because that's what I started finding in the store. They work well enough but I started snelling them. I caught fish on them both ways but I think they work better with a snell knot.

I use circle hooks on my wacky rigs. Very few lost fish no matter how many times they jump. Just have to remember to reel set instead of a regular hookset.

Circle hooks prevents gut hooking bass.

Octopus hooks were the 1st popular nose hook for drop shot rigs. Both Gamakatsu and Owner improved the gap design to optimize drop shot/wacky rigged hooks and new designs are always being developed.

I was using gamagatsu circle looks for a long time.  They work good. The only issue is If I set the hook, the hook will be pulled out of the fishes mouth.  now that I’ve trained my self to set the hook it’s been frustrating

I switched to size # 1 owner wacky rig hooks.  With weed guards or with out.  My hook % went up for myself when wacky rigging.  I think getting a hook designed for the wacky rig is optimal regardless of brand.  I still have the circle hooks for back up.

I use circle hooks when drop shoting IF I'm nose hooking a worm. Never had a fish get gut hooked, and never had a fish get off either.

Gamakatsu 1/0 Octopus Circle Hooks are all I use for wacky rigging. For me, the fish don't come unbuttoned.
