Heddon Tiny Torpedo

I have a brother in law, who lives just north of Des Moines Iowa, who loves this bait. It's his all time favourite topwater.                 His biggest LM bass on this was a 6lb fish, and he's caught scores of smaller LM, as well as quite a few smallmouth bass in his area too.                                   He's generally a pond, and small lake fisherman, and likes wading creeks, and smaller rivers also.                 He replaces the hooks with Owner trebles, and carefully bends the prop slightly forward.                                    I've caught fish on this one, but no larger bass, mostly, on a frog finish, or the old Heddon black shore minnow color.                          I do think this is a good bait though. At just under 2", it's a slightly smaller topwater than many folks like to throw. My brother in law has a whole box of these baits, in different colors. He throws them on a med spinning rod, or a med casting rod, usually with 8 or 10lb line.                              Anyone still throwing the Heddon Torpedo? If so, what colors do you like, and any mods to this one that have worked well?                  I appreciate any and all tips you can pass along regarding this old classic.

The Heddon Tiny Torpedo is one of the most effective top water baits of all time.  Very underrated as a tournament winning tool.  It's a finesse lure that draws strikes under the most adverse of circumstances. It catches bass when nothing else will.  It's a mistake to think this lure only catches small fish.  I have seen numerous 8 pound plus fish bite this lure.  If you don't have one in your tackle box, you are missing out.

Good bait. It’s one of my river Smallies baits. A skitter prop may work slightly better for me. But like all those baits pieces of floating surface grass kills them. The whopper plopper is the worse when it comes to grass.

Once grasshopper season gets into full swing the tiny torpedo comes into play. I like the baby bass color, clear for very clear water and the leopard frog are all good.

River and stream smallmouth killer. The small size is advantageous for hook-ups, as they often get it in their mouths better than the bigger topwaters. Hooks are usually dull out of the package, though, so you need to sharpen or change them out. They're cheap -- buy a bunch so you have backup when you lose one to a tree.

Torpedos and tiny torpedos are some seriously good topwater baits . I like the fact that no one fishes them

The Heddon tiny torpedo is a very good multi species lure.
