Dock skipping setup

Featured Replies

What do you guys think about reel ratios for skipping/fishing jigs in general.  I'm thinking faster is better for skipping cause you're basically just casting and retrieving.  But what about for a setup you want to use for skipping docks but also swimming jigs?  7.1:1?

Conquest 783c with a steez ct sv. The soft tip on the mbr rods combined with it being short and the sv is a dream.

I'm not a guy who needs 70 rods to fish. I currently use my Fury 735C with a Scorpion DC 8 speed. It's a little long, but it does the job.

Skipping a bait to me isn't really about having a specific setup for it, it's just using the rod you normally would for that technique. A lot of skipping is getting your technique down to keep the bait low to the water. I skip with both baitcasters and spinning reels and once you get a little practice you don't need to change any settings on a baitcaster at all. One thing I will say though is that using a rod that isn't overly long will help up you accuracy which I feel will help your skipping game.

Yep,, no spinning reels for me is the only difference, spool you reels with cheap line and learn. Then have fun. I use SV stuff , they really help when I do hit something or just screw up .
