Modifying Old Buzzbaits

Featured Replies

Was looking at the Dirty Jigs buzzbaits with no skirt for use with soft plastics like toads. I got to thinking why not remove the skirts from old buzzbaits and using those. The head would be too large to thread most plastics on without tearing them up, but they could fit past the skirt keeper just fine. Would this work, or would the exposed head ruin the action of the bait?

Thanks....Joe

Just take a file and file down the lead head on the buzzbait.the buzz frogs and toads will add enough weight. But it will work just fine the way you’re talking about.

You can experiment with some different trailers. Frog or toad,Senko, or a paddle tail swimbait. I would just super glue them on with Lok Tite  gel glue. A 4" Rage Tail Swimmer is good in place of a skirt.
