Flouro vs Mono for pitching jigs

Featured Replies

Contemplating changing from my long time favorite staple for pitching jigs, Big Game mono to Flourocarbon line.  Wondering if it is worth the cost??  Did it really make a difference?

I'd be more inclined to move in the opposite direction.

Big difference for me. I recently tried yozuri copolymer on a rod I’ve long used pline tactical on and immediately regretted it. Lost sensitivity and hookset power, going back to fuoro asap

My advice would be to try upgrading to one of the newer lower stretch mono lines.  Keep in mind that it is not just the stretch characteristic that you are changing when you move from one line type to the other.  Things like knot strength, abrasion resistance, and line suppleness will also be affected.   There really are some very good monofilament   lines that have been designed to reduce stretch, one that I enjoy fishing a lot is Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo.

Good point.  I read about this and that and it’s hard to judge.  I feel like I’ve had good success with big game but didn’t know if I could improve with a different line.

Yo Zuri hybrid is pretty good for those who want a bit of both worlds. I find that it’s the most abrasion resistant copolymer line out there (in my experience, I wish I had the budget and time to test out every brand).  If fluoro doesn’t work out for you I’d give the YZH a try. I’m currently only using it as leader material on my spinning setups but I’m impressed.
