towing a boat 2018 subaru outback

Featured Replies

curious if anyone here is towing with a subaru outback, i currently have a 14ft smokercraft big fisherman with a 25hp yamaha outboard, the car seems to tow this boat with out mush effort, i do have to take it slow on one place we fish which has a about a 3 mile incline, since i am thinking for example a 16ft lowe modified v hull type boat or something similar, i need more room and a more stable boat and a bigger casting deck, this is why i am thinking of selling this 14ft smokercraft, v hull leaves a small casting deck, so i am thinking about the 16ft if the outback will handle it, this bow will not have an outboard will be for electric motor only lakes ect. will there be any issues.

My mom has the outback with 6 cylinders, it feels like it would yank a stump out of the ground. I’m guessing your is a 4 cylinder?

yes it is

I would really suggest looking in your owners manual to see what your towing capacity is and then stay well below that. Wind resistance adds to tow weight and you don't want to overload the Subie. Twice over the years I've had to get a larger tow vehicle because I was working my truck to death trying to pull a rig that was supposedly within my towing limits.
