Hey guys, I have been using weighted hooks for weedless applications often. I was wondering if it's worth it to try a texas rig now with bullet weights? or is it the same concept? 

Also what's your recommendation for a hook size for a Texas rig and what bullet weight. I usually fish in river with a lot of weeds and some currents.

Great question.   I use both a lot.....and somewhat interchangeably.  I guess one of the big differences for me is the weights I am using.  I typically use 1/16 & 1/8 weighted hooks (Rage-Rigged) for what I think of as 'light pitching'.  I like the way the weighted hook presents in a mostly horizontal fashion.  Comes through wood and grass well.  If I'm doing more hopping or dragging, I prefer the bullet weight.  Not sure I can explain why very well, but the feedback from bottom and cover is better with the weight out front, especially if i am using tungsten.  Try both in a variety of situations and find which gives you best feedback, snagless-ness and hooksets.

My hookup ratio is far better on bullet weights and avoid weighted hooks, but it may just be my application 

I like a weighted hook for horizontal presentations like the Rage Tail Swimmer.

Otherwise, it's tungsten bullet weights for me. 

I use a mix of weighted hooks and separate hook/weight rigs.  Mostly it comes down to application, if I was going to peg the weight anyway I tend to pick a Slider head, jika rig, slead head, or weighted swimbait hook first, using each for different stuff. 

 

I almost never peg a separate weight, about the only time I do is to make a "weedless jig" out of a weight, skirt hub, rattle, and t-rigged plastic.  This combo seems to come through the pads/hydrilla that fill up most of my local ponds better than a normal jig. Otherwise I think one of the various weighted hook/jighead options is a better pick.
