I arrived at a local reservoir to find several conservation officers and county cops at the bottom of the ramp. There was a nice triton bass boat docked up on the rocks next to the ramp. In picture 1 you can barely see the top of this poor guys truck. The rest of the pictures are as a wrecker is winching it up the ramp. That looks like a pretty small vehicle to be towing a boat that size. I'm guessing the brakes went out.

It is a large ramp, but it was being winched up a little bit left of the ramp. It was a Ford Explorer. That ramp is extremely steep. It is at Mississinewa Reservoir in Indiana, which is a flood control reservoir. It either went in truck first or possibly floated around. I couldn't believe that trailer held up without bending anything when pulling it out. The cable was just hooked on the trailer frame.

I wonder if he broke his parking gear trying to power the boat off the trailer in reverse?  I guess he can sell the boat to buy a car :'(.

I would guess that the truck was park with the boat off the trailer.

Driver either forgot to place the vehicle in park and hoped out to do this

I used to laugh my tail off at stories like this, but not anymore. I did the forgot the plug deal my very first trip, but everybody does that at some point. Friday night I almost did a huge boo boo and made me realize, crap can happen to anybody.

It was 11PM, dark and people waiting on me to get my boat outta the water. You know what happens when you rush yourself. I usually take my truck out of park and it starts pulling the boat out. Water was high and I was backed way in to get the trailer in the water. Took my foot off the gas and started rolling backwards a bit. Thought I needed to give it a little gas since I was so steep. Nah, I was in reverse. Backend of the boat took on a bit of water, I realized my error quickly and pulled her on out.

I avoided an expensive and embarrassing situation, but saw how quickly a momentary lapse in concentration can cost you.

If you look at the second picture you can see that the vehicle is not straight in front of the trailer.  In the first picture you can also see the top of the vehicle to the right of the pedastal seat.  As the trailer/vehicle are being pulled out in picture 2 you can see that the vehicle is now further out into the water.  It's stands to reason that the diver hooked the tow cable on the trailer because it was easier than hooking it to the front of the vehicle.  Then the tow driver pulled it out trailer first.

Could have been a number of things, but he certainly didn't drive it in vehicle first.

So your saying that after the truck and trailer back down in to the water the driver got in and attempted to drive it to the other side of the lake to get it out.  And that is why the setup was turned around????

It looks to me (looking at the last  two pictures) like he started sliding backwards on the ramp,locked the brakes, slid side ways,and the truck entered the water first bypassing the trailer due to the weight of the truck being so much more than the boat trailer.Sound feasable?
