Looking into purchasing another baitcasting reel with an MGL spool for lighter stuff like weightless plastics ie trick worms. Something that can throw as low as 1/8, but mostly 3/16 and up to 3/8oz on a medium powered rod. Also looking for something that is well rounded ie pitching, side arm, and regular casting. 

 

What are people's opinion of the SLX MGL, Curado 70 MGL that just came out, and the Bantam MGL. That's about as far as my budget will go. 

My brother's SLX was his light bait rig until it went overboard Saturday night, most likely on one of his multiple pee breaks. Never even had a clue til we were almost back in. His new SLX MGL will be here in a few days. Tackle Direct was the only place he could find it in stock on Sunday. On paper it should be very good. We'll see.

If you can swing the Bantam, go for it.

 

Heads and shoulders above the other two IMO.

 

I have both the Curado 70 and the Bantam. Both are very nice reels. The Bantam is rock solid and a joy to cast.

The Curado 70 is sweet just not as sweet as the Bantam.

The SLX MGL is the most practical for my pocketbook, but the Curado MGL looks gorgeous!!! 

Last years MET MGL can be had at reasonable prices.....if not today, this fall for sure.  I will be selling some left’s later in the season

 

I think all 3 are nice reels and the quality matches the difference in price points.

This coming from a Shimano fanboy. The MGL reels are all nice and cast well. But they get too much credit for being finesse reels. Under 1/4 oz. capability goes to another class of equipment.

A used aldebaran 50 or 30 MGL should be good for 3/16 and in your price range. You might be able to go as low as 1/8oz if you have a good suitable rod, most of M power rod not gonna cut it.

Seems a lot of people have different interpretation of what "finesse" means. Some folks think a weightless senko is finesse fishing, and I suppose it is to a point, but BFS reels are an entirely different animal. The MGL reels are above average with lighter baits, but they're far from finesse. I think they really shine when flipping and pitching, more than casting. Those light spools do start up very easily.
