Brand new rod "break in " period

Why are we talking about 10 years now? This thread was about 3 trips with the rod, not 10 years.

But, like every other thread, it tends to go every other direction.

All of our rods might be “breaking in” and we wouldn’t even notice it because it happens so slowly over time. I’m not saying that they are but if they are we might just not even notice it unless we compare it to a brand new rod

I read that graphite rods under stress do change.  Over time the rod will actually flatten out into an oval shape and start to lose power.  The X wrapping in the Expride and Zodias are supposed to minimize flattening.

I’ve never read of and certainly never experienced any “breaking in” “weakening” or “wearing out” of a rod blank. It would be a hard sell to convince me of such.

Any tube will flatten into an oval shape under load but I can’t see a blank taking a permanent set barring overload that compromised the integrity.

I remember I bought a 6'6 M Veritas back in the day and it was really stiff for a M almost a MH. Over the years, the rod loosen up. The carbon fiber structure over years like WRB said has to have adjusted after years of usage
