Looking for opinions on finesse rods

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a new finesse rod. Mainly for ned rigs, neko, wacky and all around finesse techniques. I have several in mind already. Steez ags 7'mlxf, dobyns xtasy, phenix k2, megabass p5, 13 carbon fuse, g loomis glx or nrx, megabass evoluzion. If anyone can give me input or other options I'd greatly appreciate it

Irod genesis II--i have a 7'4 medium finesse swim(excellent drop shot rod!!!)

Irod genesis II--7'1 medium(great rod for ned & shaky head)

both button them up and are extremely light. Pretty sensitive too. great customer service

Thank you!! I'll have to look into them. I've never tried irod. So that's a new option

I only carry one finesse rod with me on my kayak so it has to do more than one thing well. I have a Shimano Expride A MF with a 2500 Stradic FL and I've been very happy with it. I use it for ned and weightless senkos mostly.

I've heard really good things about exprides. I've just never personally handled one. Thank you for your input

They punch above their weight class, for sure. Light and very sensitive. I'd actually like to replace my Dobyns with them but they're a little pricey and my kids spend all my money.

I haven't used my Genesis IIs enough to form an opinion.  However, you are comparing $150 rods to ones running anywhere from $450 to $580.  Somehow I think the iRods won't quite match up.  If they do, then I'd better buy a few more iRods.  :lol1:

Lol. Ive never honestly even looked at an irod. I wasn't sure how much they were. I'd still like to check one out just to see

Megabass P5 if only they had more than two options.

Xtasys have really good tips for those techniques you listed and a lifetime warranty. I actually use my Xtasy 723c for those exact techniques and can even cast a 1/10 oz Ned Rig pretty good. I throw a 1/16 or 3/32 oz Neko Rig on it most of the time, but have thrown a lot of finesse jigs on it like the Bitsy Bug and it's good with 3/8 oz Spinner baits/ Chatterbaits, and great for keitech and paddletails too.

Can't really go wrong with a Expride and a Vanford though either.

I have a champion extreme and I really like it. They are the best balanced rods I've ever used. The only thing that concerns me is I've read some reviews saying the xtasy isn't as sensitive as other high end rods

Have you thought about having a custom rod built?  There are loads of light super sensitive blanks on the market.  There must be builders in your part of the country.

I'd love to have a custom built!! Honestly I only know of one in my area. Do you know of any? Regardless of where they're located

Our own Delaware Valley Tackle (see side-bar) makes custom rods.

I was trying to do him a favor letting him know he could get 3 instead of 1 lol. They are great rods, especially for 150 bucks

I like mine the (very) little I've used them.  I am a big fan of the Tatula rods...another $150 rod.  Not used the new model.  Most I paid was $100 for a used one.  My new ones all cost less than that.  :teeth:  I've read that the new Phenix M1 is also a great rod for the money.  Wouldn't mind one myself.  :lol1:

i have a couple tatulas but both are casting, one is the xt heavy and i love punching with it. My partner has a couple tatula spinning rods that he talks pretty highly about, if i ever see any good condition used here around town i plan on scooping one up

Mine are all casting as well.

I recently switched from a Megabass Addermine to a P5 Wind Buster. Both are great rods for what you plan to use them for. I have a Daiwa Certate LT 3000XH on the Addermine and a new Shimano Exsence 3000MHG on the Wind Buster. The Wind Buster is a great rod and the Exsence makes it a perfect combo.

I have a flyssa and it is amazing!! I got P5 bait finesse over the summer and I love that rod!! I was looking at the landstat or wind buster next. The only thing that turned me away a little from it was the specs say 1/4. I usually throw between 1/16 and 3/16. Mainly right in the middle at an 1/8. But I love the length at 7'2". Thats exactly the length I'm looking for. Thank you for the info

I've been looking at iRod for a new dropshot rod, since I've been so impressed with the other 2 I got this year. If you bought another, would  you go with the 742 again over the 731?

7'4 no doubt

where does it balance with the FL on it?

IMO Majot Craft finnese rods compare favorably to any higher end rod. Bass don't care about labels. What is important; light weight well balanced with Fuji reel seat and giude train flawlessly assembled. The rod blanks have excellent feedback designed for finesse fishing.

That's another company I've never tried. But I have always heard good things about them

The Majorcraft MSX-68ML spinning is the highend model with all newest technology.

Nanoace Iovino finesse spinning rod is the standard and at the price point far better IMO then Irod Gen 2 spinning rods. Hard to beat Irod gen 2 swimbait rods.
