Which Shimano reel would be best for my Expride?

Featured Replies

My first Expride is on the way. It is the 7'2 Heavy and I will use this as my main worm rod. I fish Florida, so tons of grass and vegetation. I will use it for 10" worms, swim worms, and skinny dippers.

I am deciding between the:

Curado 200HG K 7.4.1 for $160

Chronarch MGL150 7.1 for $240

I currently have a Curado and Chronarch now on other rods, and are happy with both. The Chronarch is noticeably smoother to me. Do I get another Curado and save the $100 and use towards something else like a Hawgtech handle upgrade, or towards a future upgrade to Expride flipping stick?

I’ve never fished a Chronarch but I say go with the K and save your money for a potential upgrade in the future. The K is a darn good reel but I have no idea how it compares to a chronarch. Just wanted to put my vote in.

Alright, went with the K. Worst case scenario I saved $100 and can move a Chronarch I have on my flipping rod to it.

Thanks

Good choice on the K. Super solid reel and that matte black finish is killer. In fact, my 7.4 K just knocked a 16’ Metanium off a workhorse rod.

Sleek, minimal, and some beefy guts to boot! Enjoy!

IMO I feel like the chronarch belongs on a light crisp rod. Not a heavy worm rod. Not sure why I feel that way, I just do. I have both reels. The chronarch I keep on a m/f for light t rigs and some other lighter presentations. The currado is fantastic for cranking in veggies. Again I have no grounds for thinking this way. The chronarch just feels like a 1/8 t rig, jerkbait. Type of reel to me.
