I use braid with flouro leader on all my spinning gear. I usually use a 1/4 oz weight on my drop shot setup, but I’m going to be fishing in 20+ fow in an upcoming club tourney The problem with that is the bowing and floating properties associated with braid affecting the sink rate of the lure. Would stepping up to a 3/8-1/2 oz weight help with this?

 

If theres a good chop on the water and the boat is constantly bobbing up and down a heavier weight isn't going to help a whole lot.  If the wind is bowing the line keep the rod tip low, and if that doesn't work put the tip of the rod in the water, hope this helps. GL

Sure, I think it would.  With a drop shot the primary purpose of the weight is to get the bait to the strike zone (the bottom to a foot or so off the bottom ) asap.   I wouldn't hesitate going  heavier if it was windy and there was chop on the water.  I'd lead off with at least 3/8 oz if I was fishing co-angler, just to give my bait more time in the chosen strike zone before the boater moved the boat.

The heavier weight will help, but I would be using straight fluorocarbon.

I 2nd that..

I used to drop shot alot with straight fluorocarbon on Lk St Clair for years. I was finding that i was stripping line every 2 or 3 times i fished due to line twist. I am a braid to fluorocarbon believer. If you wanted to you could always use a longer fluoro leader.

Going heavier will help and as mentioned, keep your rod tip low to keep the line out of the wind.

I'd also recommend using a swivel to attach the leader to your main line as it will eliminate line twist. That, or use Spinshot hooks from VMC
