Putting a bend in your punching hook

Featured Replies

I heard carl jocumsen say this morning that putting a bend in your punching hook makes a difference. Then Zona said bending it left or right just a degree or two is huge, what are they talking about?

Idk but have never seen it come up in freshwater but for Saltwater there's bait hooks that have a twist and are offset where the point/barb are not inine with the shank of the hook, supposedly it makes the hooks "stickier" so easier to get a hookset. I've never felt like it does much but that's probably what they are going for.

Mine neither..

If you use a quality heavy cover hook I see no reason why you would want or need too.

I think that they are talking about bending the hook point slightly so that it offset and not inline with the eye. The pic below is for a circle hook, but the idea is the same.

Today's hooks are made from highly tempered steel that you shouldn't bend, it sets up stress cracks.... Don't bend them unless you heat them cherry red,  then they are softer losing strength..
