Mercury Muted Alarm

Featured Replies

I run a 2013 115 Optimax and, occasionally, when I crank the engine, I get a quiet beep, as opposed to the usual loud beep most of you are familiar with. My concern, obviously, is that I may be running and not hear an alarm, should it sound. Anyone experience a similar issue? If so, what should I look for to correct it?

Your Mercury outboard engine beeps ounce after you switch on the ignition key to indicate everything is OK to start it. More then 1 beep the computer is warning the oil reservior is low, continuos beeps is a caution not to start the engine. A load horn goes off if the engine is overheating or out of oil.

If the alarm sound is muted it may be something to do with hearing or poor electrical connection to check into.

Tom

PS, read the manual.

Sorry if I wasn't being clear. The engine is operating normally. I just mean that, when I start the engine, I get the beep that just shows that the system is working. However, sometimes that beep is very soft instead of loud, and I'm afraid that it might do that when there's actually a problem, and I won't hear it.

Is your wife yelling at you about going fishing again when this happens?  That might be the reason it's hard to hear.  Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

I actually haven't been getting yelled at... Maybe I'm not fishing enough? ?
