Shimano SLX 150hg

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just bought the Shimano SLX 150hg baitcaster reel today. I have paired it up with the Daiwa Revros Baitcaster rod (which has a cast weight of 10-30g and line from 6-12kg.). As this is my first time with baitcasters and I am not familiar with these types of reels, I was wondering if anyone who uses this exact same reel, or something similar, could help me with how to set it up and the adjustments that need to be made for the different lure weights. The type of braking system it has is the one where it has those plastic clips and you have to either flick it in or out.

Right now the lure I am using is a Mepps Agila Inline Spinner, and I have tried to cast it with my rod and reel, however the most it went was 4 meters.

However I want to also use this reel and rod for soft plastics such as the zmans with a 1/8 ounce jighead.

Any suggestions on how to set up this reel.

Thanks

Aaron

I have the reel and set 2 brakes on. Use the cast control knob and set where your lure barely comes down on own.

I have the SLX XG and fish it with two breaks on.   It is spooled with 10lb BPS flourocarbon and I throw mostly worms on it.  I did change the drags to Curado 70 XG Carbontex and the spool bearings to SS high speed ZR bearings.  A sweet little reel.

I think the bait your casting is too light for the rod to load properly. The reel isn’t an issue here.

Unless that's a #4 or #5 Aglia - I'm with DVT. 10gm is 11/32oz (about 5/16), 30gm is just over 1oz.

A #3 Aglia is only 1/4oz. You want a Medium or Medium-Light to properly toss a #2-#3, Light or Ultra-Light for a #0-#1.

That rod looks to be a Medium-Heavy - more suited for jigs, chatterbaits and jig-head spinnerbaits.
