Gram to Ounce Conversion

Featured Replies

Anyone have a simple conversion chart. I have a rod that will handle 1-8 gram lures just trying to get an idea of what the lures weights would be in fractions of an ounce.

Calculator on your phone/tablet/PC - Divide grams by 28.5

There's 28.5 grams in one ounce.

Oh - every .03125 is 1/32nd

1gm is about 1/32, 8gm is about 9/32 - just over 1/4oz

Sounds like an Ultra-Light rod to me.

If you can reach the Google on phone or computer just visit google.com and in the search say "convert 1 grams to oz" or "convert 8 grams to oz" etc. It comes up with the answer. It doesn't show you in actual fractional notation, just decimal, so you have to do that last step yourself.

Example -

"convert 1 g to oz"

0.035274 oz (if you divide 1/32 it's close)

"convert 8 grams to oz"

0.282192 oz (if you divide 1/4 it's close)

So in terms of ounces, your rod is rated for lures approx 1/32 to 1/4.

This is what I use the most

1 gram 1/32,

2 grams 1/16

4 grams 1/8

8 grams 1/4

We just round up to 28.5 for ease.

You’re right:    I stand corrected!

1/5oz 5.67gm

3/16oz 5.31gm

1/6oz 4.72gm

1/7 oz 4.05gm

1/8oz 3.54gm

1/10oz 2.83gm

3/32oz 2.65gm

Or in my case I round it down to 28 grams. It makes the arithmetic a bit easier.

1/8 oz =3.5 grams

7 gram -1/4 oz etc.

This is probably the best way to go. We're 100% on metric here but I use pounds and ounces for anything fishing related, since I learned how to fish for bass from old Bassmaster magazines, late 90s and early 2000s fishing shows on tv, early internet sites and forums, stuff like that.

I round down to 28 grams and it makes everything easier. 7 grams (or roughly the equivalent of a sugar packet here) is 1/4, 10.5 is 3/8, 14 is 1/2oz and so on. Half a gram is such a tiny amount that you're not really hurting yourself rounding down, especially considering the tolerances built into the rods, reels, and fishing line.
