Connectivity of Garmin Units

Featured Replies

The boat I recently purchased came with a Garmin EchoMap 73cv. I want to install a small unit at the bow. Will the Striker series be compatible with my current transducer or would I need another EchoMap model?

Is your current Echomap a Plus unit or an older unit? If it’s an older unit you’ll need another Echomap unit.

I do believe Echomap Plus units will share waypoints only with Striker Plus.

If your current unit is not a Plus unit again I believe you will need to find another non Plus unit in order to share waypoints.

I believe mine is an older unit.

We did manage to get waypoints to be sent from a gen 1 Echomap on the console to a gen 1 Striker in the bow. But that was as far as the connectivity went.

Ahh good to know. Did you just use the brown/blue wires?

We used speaker wire and spliced it in, brown/blue seems familiar.

Brown/blue is with the power wire, I believe? You just need to strip it back to expose it. I’d go check my boat but she’s hibernating as you probably know only being a hop skip and a jump away from me.

Any low voltage wire would work. Thermostat wire works too and last I knew....years ago it was pretty cheap.

Don't remember exactly what was done. The Striker got booted for an Echomap because the gen 1s could only display waypoints, no map data which was turbo frustrating.

I’m pretty sure only Plus units share Sonar and waypoints with each other , but Gen1 Echomaps and Plus will share just waypoints. I’ve obviously been wrong before.

We contacted Garmin and I don't think there was a way to share or slave sonar/maps off of those.

I’m not even worried about the units sharing waypoints or sonar. I’m just wondering if they will work using the same transducer.

Is it touch screen?

No not a touch screen

I have two Echomap pluses. A 74cv that came with the boat up front and 73sv on the console. Will NOT share maps as they both have preloaded mapping but shares everything else.
