Anyone ever rode in a Legend Boat? If so how would it compare to other well known brands? (ex: Ranger, Stratos, Triton, etc)

I took a look at CJ's boat down at the road trip.  It clearly has the build quality of any of the finest out there.  As for the ride and how it compares to Ranger, Stratos, Triton, etc.

All of those boats ride differently.  The real question is what are you looking for in a bass boat ride.  Top end speed?  Rough water handling and a dry ride?  Fishability at rest?

Each boat is a little different.    

Speed, Stability, Storage, and of course gas efficiency doesn't hurt. ;D

I have taken a ride in CJ's boat when he first got the thing.

Apparently, the motor was still in "break in" mode but it still seemed ridiculously fast to me.

We were in some pretty windy, rough conditions on Guntersville and the boat seemed to handle the chop with ease.  At speed, the thing sliced through waves like nothing.  While fishing, it was a very stable platform.

From what I saw, the storage was more than adequate.

Gas efficiency wouldnt be the greatest, mostly due to it having a 225 on back.

Stick with a 150 or 175 and it would obviously be better, just not quite as scary fast.   ;D

Reason I was asking, my cousin considering getting his hand on a 19' or 20' Legend boat. No one in his area (Alabama) got a Legend  boat. The person from Legend that he talked to on the phone told him their boat were faster.

All the tournaments that he fished, he never sees a Legend  boat, so he was just venturing out trying see what else is out there in boat industry.

I probably end up getting a nitro when I get out school. For now my 16' challenger with 75 will sufficient ;D

History of Legend boats.

John Storie leaves Champion and starts Viper/Cobra boats. Due to non-compete agreement he signed with Champion, he can't build a deep V wedge like the Champion boat he originally designed many years ago. Rumor has it he copied a Ranger 481V and made modifications to the hull.

Viper/Cobra go belly up and then Storie starts up Hawk boat co.

Hawk doesn't last long at all, (gone by around 2000 or 2001) and then becomes

Legend.

The Legends of today are not being built off the same molds the originals were. They have been redesigned and John Storie is no longer in the boat building biz.

They are a fine boat, not the fastest but not the slowest.

lol, ofcourse he did. He probably also said they were the most stable and best fishing boat ever made too. Now I wonder why he would say that?

They are good boats, buddy of mine had one and it was a good fishing platform. For the money though, I'd buy a Basscat personally.

2005 Legend LE21 CDX w/3.3L 300 Yamaha HPDI  

At first glance I got the impression of a cross between a Champion and a HydraSport.

I spent a good hour looking the boat over from bow to stern and must say this is an extremely well engineered and manufactured boat.  The quality of workmanship along with the fit and finish makes this one of the top boats on the market today.

On the water the boat handled excellent even though the water had only a moderate chop of 8 to 10 inches. I ran the rig through a slalom course that's used for skiing, so I only used every other buoy; at 50 to 60 mph the handling was smooth with little input on the steering wheel.

Hole shots (0-30 mph) were easily in the 5 to 6 second range, I wasn't sure if this was due to the hull design or that big Yammie on the back. Top end was in the upper 80s as per GPS, but I would like to check it with a radar gun.

I have fished with CJ in his Legend on several occasions.

The only thing I didn't like was speed...It's WAY too fast

for my taste!

My fishing partner has a BayRanger 2108, now replaced by the 2200

Top speed is about 47 mph and it rides like a couch on an aircraft

carrier.
