Jika Rig or Tokyo Rig

Featured Replies

is the main difference just dropping the weight down?

anyone use this in the winter?? i’m thinking the Jika/Tokyo or even a shaky head might be something to try if the fish are down deep?

Right now in SW Louisiana the Tokyo rig is catching as long as it’s a super slow presentation and with a lure that doesn’t have a whole crap ton of movement. The Tokyo rig “wire” is much stiffer than that of the Jika rig and I believe longer. Just my experience as far as the difference in the two though.

Any other thoughts?

My thoughts. They are both cheaper to make yourself as opposed to buy "pre-made".

I have had luck with the Tokyo rig but IMO the Jika rig is replicable with a swinging jig head, which I love to throw.

This is a good thread if you’re curious about swing heads aka swinging jigs.

As for the jika rig and Tokyo rig , the jika has a dropshot type weight connected directly to a split ring, which the hook is also on. The Tokyo rig has the bullet weight on a wire which is then connected to a split ring on a barrel swivel. The differences in when and how to fish them? I haven’t got a clue about that.
