Swimbait setup

Featured Replies

Based on my username you can figure I musky fish, however I am intrigued at the thought of big swimbaits. I currently have a chaos tackle assault stick (3/4 - 4 oz) paired up with a high speed 300 tranx with 65lb braid, would such a setup be good for swimbaits or should I get a setup specific for bass swimbaits? I'm also planning on getting a Chaos tackle S.W.A.T assault stick (3-10oz) and a 400 size tranx.

If I should get a seperate setup, I'm open to recommendations.

I'm not familiar with those rods, and 'swimbaits' covers alot of territory from crawlers to big softies. Generally speaking if it can handle musky lures it'll handle bass lures. There's just some nuance to what you fish with what when it comes to action and sensitivity.

Your reel choices are perfect.

for rod I would go with Courado 906 or dobyns ultra mag 908.

you can buy dobyns 906 or 806 as well . I have more like 3 swimbait rods, 1-3oz(which you have), and this last two so I can cover everything up to 26oz

I don't plan to throw anything giant, as I'm in Pennsylvania and there aren't many big big bass here. However, the biggest I'd want would be a depps 250, not much bigger that I think I could catch fish on. If I buy that aforementioned 3-10oz I could throw a depps 250 as well as my musky baits. What kind of line is preferred for swimbaits? I run a 65 lb braid mainline to a 20+ inch leader of 80lb flauro for musky!

everyone have their own idea, I do 65 with 30lb FC, but on my dobyns for giants I do 65 strait braid. but  so many pros using 25lb mono or FC strait for Deps 250.
