Cashion flipping stick.

Featured Replies

so I'm in the market for a flipping stick.its not a technique I've used much but I wanna try flipping deep milfoil. its not something I think many guys do on our lakes. anyway I don't wann spend a fortune on the rod but I want something decent. I have a Cashion light spinning rod that I like for neds etc so I thought I may try the flipping stick.  anybody have any experience with one?

Don't overthink this.  When using the flipping technique, the rod is only a lever.  You could use a broom handle if you could hold one long enough.  What you want is a rod with backbone that's lite enough to hold for long periods of time.   A spinning rod may not due the job. The rod I use for flipping is a Bass Pro Shop 7' 6" medium heavy graphite casting rod rated for 15 to 25 pound line.  It's collapsible, which makes it easy to store.  You can buy these rods for around $50.  You can pay eight times as much for a flipping stick if you want, but you won't catch any more fish with it.

I flip/ pitch more than any other technique. It’s a right of passage living and fishing in South and Cental Florida

All you need is a rod with a minimum length of 7ft. A 6’6” is usable and will work just fine but you’ll lose distance especially while flipping, not as much as when pitching.

Since you don’t know exactly what you want, I suggest you find a rod rated as a H/F from any well known manufacturer.
They all have rods at every price point.

A more useful rod would be something you would like for fishing jigs.

This will work just fine to start with.  I would recommend at least 7'.

We can make specific recommendations depending on your budget.

Are you actually going to flip? Or are you going to pitch?

actually yes ill be pitching. I have 10 st.croix legend tournament rods .they are what I use for 90% of my fishing. I have 7ft med heavy that may work. also thought about getting a 74 heavy and using it for football jigs etc also.

I can and often do pitch cast with every rod I own, including the spinning rods.  No need to buy a special rod for it.  Just go out and pitch.

thats probably what I'll do at least til I see how effective it is on my lakes.only thing is ill need to use a 3/4 -1 oz weight which is a little over weighted for the rod but it will work..

I like a 7'5"ish Heavy Moderate for fishing deep emergent weeds with the 10-15' stalks on them.
