San Diego Jam Knot vs. Palomar Knot ?

I used to have some knot problems, but now I use the SDJ  (or the Improved Clinch; yes, I'm an old-timer!) and I've ceased having knot problems. That's with braid, nylon or fluorocarbon. The reason is simple; I tie those reliably and consistently. I'd rather tie 2 knots well than 22 knots poorly.           jj

I’m in that camp lol. I use the IC a lot. It’s a knot I can tie in my sleep.

The only time I ever had a palomar knot break was when I tied the knot wrong, or when there was a problem with the line.

Lots of variables, but most testing I've seen puts these two knots very close to each other, with the difference (variability) so small you might as well call them equals. What I have personally experienced though is that not every line brand likes a particular knot, so having the other as an alternative is a "nice to know" thing that has come in handy a time or two. Most days I'm strictly Palomar for every line type.

I use both Palomar and SD jam knots.

Palomar excels for tying direct to hooks, snap or small lures that it’s easy to pass the lure or hook/snap through the loop.

San Diego jam knot excels tying direct to jigs, crank baits, spinning baits or any multiple hook lure that you can use the lures weight to aid in tying the knot.

Both are good knots and easy to tie correctly under fishing conditions.
