Replacing hook on H&H spinners

Featured Replies

Hey ya’ll,

I have some H&H’s. like em a lot. One problem: I just really don’t like that hook. Doubled the way it is I seem to get it hung up in a whole lot more places. Do any of ya’ll replace that and if so, what do you replace it with?

The H&H spinnerbait is made in my hometown of Baton Rouge and was one of the first lures I started using back in the early 60's. I still use it when bass a feeding on small shad and I need a smaller profile lure.

I don't change the hooks on the H&H. You will hang up more with the free-swinging double hook but I have never found a replacement that's any better. I do use a small file to sharpen the hooks though. I'm very careful around any cover they could hang up on.

One tip -- make sure the hook points are facing upwards.

Thanks for your comment. They are supposed to be oriented like this correct?

You could probably use an open eye siwash hook to make I a single hook bait.

I was not familiar with open eye siwash hooks but that looks like it might work. Thanks much.

I've done that, but it's the swinging part that makes it snag. I use a short piece of surge tubing over the hook eye, which acts like shrink tubing which also works, but use a hair drier or heat gun not a flame, ask me how I know....

Thy also make open eye hooks with the same bend as most spinnerbaits use, Check salt water section or sites.

I take it that the good old fashion sharpening file is staying in the drawer...?

Was asking about replacing hooks because i didn't like the way the double hooks snagged. I do think the swinging is a big reason that the hook snags though, regardless of single or double. Just trying to make it a more snagless lure. I keep a sharpener with me always and check hooks frequently.

Sorry buddy, I did read that earlier today. That's just me trying to work and socialize at the same time.

One thing I forgot to mention. Remove the skirt and then put it back on backwards. You will get more movement out of the skirt when positioned like that.

That is a great tip! Thank you very much
