New (to me) Ranger rt188 help installing electronics

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I got offered a 2019 ranger rt188 for 21k had to take it. Selling my 2020 tracker classic xl 10 hrs on motor if you're interested (;

Anyway i have a helix 7 and 9 i want to take off and put on my ranger any ideas of who could do this for me cost effectively. if possible someone mobile so i wouldnt have to pull 2 boats i live in south columbus ohio any help would be appreciated.

I'm sure any dealer could do it but don't know how cost effective it'll be. I'd offer my services but ur 2.5 hrs away so may not be cost effective in that regard.  I own a triton 18tx so basically identical rig to urs. If u have any questions holler.  Ive swapped graphs on mine 3 times and just put helix 12's on it a month ago! Ull love the ranger!

Why don't you just leave the wiring in place on the tracker and buy a new harness from the installer? Then you just have to haul the boat and fish finders to them.

At that distance, faster to do it yourself.  Personally I would never pay anyone to do this...but that is because I don't trust others to do it right and I want to make sure when anything happens on the water I know exactly how to deal with it.

That would be my first choice too, but it seems like the op is not comfortable with that. I solder and heat shrink all my connections so I know it will last.

Brock, I don’t think you’ll have any problem selling your boat pretty fast in this market where it seems like used boats are going fast for top $$.

With that being said leave the finders on the Tracker and just ask more to help offset the cost of new ones. That way if you don’t want to install yourself, you can have the dealer you buy the new ones from do the install. Good luck and congrats on your new boat.

I don’t know which helix you plan to mount on the console and which one on the bow, but if you are intending to flush mount it, the console may have a max size screen that will fit.

I’ve got a 2015 RT178 and the max size screen I can flush mount at the console is a 7 inch.

Just something to keep in mind.

It’s real easy to do your self. All wires to back go through one tube. Fish tape works great. You can remove the drink holder for extra guidance.

the bow has a fuse block under the recess trolling motor pedal already installed. Drill a hole in the recess tray or bow dash area to run wires. Put a pass thru grommet to cover the hole.

easy to do

I even have an extra grommet if you want it.

I mounted the head units on ram 2” ball mounts, but there are others too
