Night time crappie

Featured Replies

Recently got into some really nice crappies after dark at a local lake. All fish came when it was pitch black out on a crappie tube about 2 ft under a bobber. The only problem is that I was having trouble seeing my bobber while standing on the dock... any suggestions for light up bobbers/floats so that I can see my bait?

They make small glow sticks that slip on the top of stick bobbers to make seeing them at night very easy. They also make small, battery powered light up bobbers.

If you buy Beacon light stick kit (not refill) it will come with a lot of adapter that might fit your bobbers. Depends on bobbers you use some might not work well with weight added.

I use Mr. crappie flo glo with about 5 grams weight. The weight help with casting distance also.

If you want to try jig fishing for crappie at night, blue is top color for night-time fishing.

My crappie plastic collection, only have 1 or two in blue. Mostly yellow, pink and white. I catch them with all kind of color but my favorite is yellow, chartreuse and white. At one time I used dark color, the bite was good for about 45 mins and die down, I switched to light color (white/pink), the bites fire back up for another good 30 mins. Sorry have to use Instagram picture (I update my phone and all pictures in my laptop now).

I’ve never really targeted crappies at night but I have targeted walleyes at night many times. We used a lighted thill brand slip bobber. You would want to use a smaller one for crappies than I did for walleyes though.
