Cranks, jerks, all swim baits - 7’0 MH/F

 

My third setup just recently snapped so I’m out to get another one. It was a spinning 6’8 M/F that I used from ned rigs, t rigs all the way up to small jigs and everything in between. 

 

With everything I use it for I’m wondering if I should get a MH or stick with the M? What makes me stick with the M is just thinking about a Ned rig on a MH. Also my next question is what type of line I should be using on this spinning setup? I’ve heard some people say braid is good for bottom contact which is essentially everything I’m using on it. I had #8 invisx on it so wondering if I should change it or not. Not interested in using mono on it. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and suggestions.

Yeah the topwater and swim baits setup are casting. I only use spinning on that setup because of the Ned rig. I know spinning is a bit better for finesse techniques. Could I pass by with casting? 

I would go MH for sure. That being said, I tend to lean toward the too heavy side of things as opposed to being under powered.

Do you think a Ned rig would still work fine with a MH? I just don’t have the selection of rods right now to get a finesse only setup. 

If it were me, I'd rearrange like so:

 

6'6" MH/F casting

- Topwater

- Crankbaits

- Jerkbaits

 

7'0" MH/F casting

- Jigs

- Swimbaits

- Texas Rigged plastics

 

6'9" - 7'0" M/F spinning new rod

- All unweighted or lightly-weighted light-wire single hook soft plastics

I suppose it would, but I also wouldn't be throwing Texas Rigs and jigs on 8 lb fluoro.

A M or even a ML would be much more versatile then a MH.  As for the line, just use what you like.  If you arent having issues with the Invizx keep using it.    

What are you looking to spend on the spinning rod?  When I got back into fishing, I went almost exclusively baitcasting.  Live in a highly pressured area, and wanting to try a new spinning outfit.  Hoping downsizing baits will increase catch.  A recent thread on another forum has me seriously looking at a Tatula.  Either the 7'1" MLF or the 6'10" M-XF.  Lure rating is the same and line rating nearly so.  Both said to fish above price and quite sensitive.

 

A gentleman bought both, and felt the 6'10" M-XF was a bit more versatile.....for him.  I'm honestly thinking of getting the M-XF.  Would have already ordered it, but waiting to see how my coordination progresses since my brain surgery.

Iovino Splash-It rod NAC-T68MFSI is 6’8” Medium/fast casting that I use for lots of lures 3/16oz to 5/8 oz and presentations with 11 lb Armillo Nylon line.

I would get a medium power fast action spinning rod. That rod can do a lot. If I was fishing around a lot of grass I’d bump it up to a MH
