best gear ratio for spinnerbaits and texas rigs

Featured Replies

I kinda of prefer the 7:1ish ratios reels for both. T-rigged you want a fast retrieve after your out of the strike zone and spinner baits for me I like a 7:1. I like the 1/2 double willow spinner baits.  It's fast enough to burn the spinner bait just under the surface and it has enough torque not to wear you out. It's slow enough so if you want to "slow roll" deeper you can.

For all bottom contact presentations I use an 8.
For all mid depth moving baits a 7
On top or cranks a 6

Are we talking one reel for both or two separate reels? For Texas rigs, I prefer an XG (8). For spinnerbaits and chatterbaits I prefer a 6 gear. I guess if I had to compromise it would be a 7.

I like something in the 6' for spinnerbaits, something in the 7's for t-rigs.  Although in the overall scheme of things I can easily make either work for both.

I like a 6 maximum for my spinnerbaits I like bigger blades and higher gear ratios will be harder to pull. I like a 7 for t- rigs

I'm one of the few that like a 5 gear ratio for spinnerbaits.

T rigs I use 7 gear ratio.

If I move to an 8 gear ratio, i feel like i loose to much torque to move fish out of cover.
