Jigs: Boil it down?

Featured Replies

I do all these mods already, when needed. The photos I'm referring to on TW, the guards are at a really sharp angle, really short, and just look weird to me.

when i am feelin jiggy which i am this week i have been dunking some in orange and yellow spike it along with the trailors to make

some unique colors.

I am swapping skirts off of spinners for different looks all in the name of showing something different. I take berkley kingtail worms and cut the tail end off and use for trailers and the rest of the worm works as a stick bait. Fleetfarm had a sale on kingtails reg $6.99 now $1.76 so i bought a bunch of bags of red, green, june bug.

Weight, and color are mainly what I'm concerned with.  Most jig head styles will work in most situations.  The only time you really need a specialty jig head is when fishing in the extreme circumstances.  So if the grass is really thick, or the bottom has lots of crevasses in between the rocks, or you're fishing around a freshly fallen tree with lots of tiny branches everywhere, etc. then you might need a specialty jig.  Otherwise, I'd rather not waste my time switching them out.  But if it appears I'm going to be wasting more time by not switching them out, then I'll go ahead and do it.

I've only got the one jig rod, and I'll usually fish several different types of cover over the course of a few minutes.  So constantly switching them out isn't a productive use of my time.  That, and fish mostly bite them on the fall, and they all pretty much fall the same, assuming their the same size and weight.
