My buddy used to take his 16' Skeeter out on Erie all the time. You just have to be smart about it

People from my home country of Cuba float over on suitcases and worn out tires.

You’ll be fine with your $250 life jacket.

As Hovanec stated, just be smart about it.  Make sure its calm, flat conditions and there isn't an impending storm brewing.  People take kayaks and paddle boards on the ocean when its calm, but they don't do it in 4 foot waves.

It all depends on the wind.  People take kayaks out there on calm days on other days they'll be 5' waves.

The good thing is that you don't have to go far off shore right now to find fish. You should be fine with your boat.

One of the problems on St Clair is the frequent huge wakes from the big cruisers.  Mix those with a good chop, and it can get tricky.  Just make sure you are not going too fast and missing seeing them coming.  If you see them and act appropriately you can deal with them with any boat.
