Pressured lake

Featured Replies

For a pressured lake during a windy day what tactics do you use that are finesse? Do you still throw light weight? What wind do you usually put that stuff away at?

Small 4" swimbait on a jighead.  I'll throw this right in the wind without problem.  I also will use a 3/8th oz sinker on a dropshot.

I did this last weekend with the swimbait when I was faced with 30+ mi/hr winds and did as well as I could have expected.  Had a big fish come unbuttoned late in the day which would have given me a top 3 finish if I could have landed it.

I don't usually throw finesse in the wind. A swim jig with a small but aggressive trailer,  small spinnerbait, or t-rig is were I'd be looking to start, but without knowing the specifics, there may be other options, like a swimbait, or wakebait.

Let me think pressured with wind lake Castiac comes to mind. Finesse bass fish with 1/8 oz dart jigs, split shot  and drop shot got it’s start at Castiac.

Pressure Castaic is about 2 1/2 miles long with 200+ boats on tournament weekends, 60-100 bass boats with over 100 pleasure boaters = pressure. 15 to 30mph wind w/white caps in the afternoon = wind.

You learn good boat control, reading sonar and using light line spinning tackle and strike detection or you get skunked.

Around here windy days and finesse baits don't mix.  I will fish with baits that hopefully the bass have not seen in a while.
