G Loomis 901s v 902s

Featured Replies

I know people use the 902s for ned rigs but was wondering if anyone has either of these rods? If so what do you use them for? Or should I just grab the new NRX+ ned rig rod (821)? I feel like I would like the longer rod length of the 90s but I am not sure? I have a sponsorship with loomis so I could get the new NRX+ for a good(better than $600) price. Thanks!

I am also considering the 902s NRX+. They feel a little softer than most "2 power mediums". I would probably use it for ned rigs, small swimbaits and slightly heavier hair jigs in the 3/32oz-1/4oz range. (could also be used for a ton of walleye applications as a added bonus). Overall, I have been pretty impressed with the new lineup. I have not fished with any yet but the shop I work at had about a dozen different models show up. Build quality seems a tad better than the original NRX but I did notice a few blemishes on a few rods (nothing real alarming but you would expect better from a $600+ rod).

The 901s feels a little soft to me. It would be an awesome dedicated hair jig rod but I think the 902s would be more versatile.

Yeah that’s what I thought. The 901 seems a bit on the lighter side so I’ll probably grab a 902 as well. Thanks!

Under power rod is worthless for bass fishing do in part to marginal hook sets....imo.

If you typically throw 1/15-1/20th of an ounce the 901 would be good and have sufficient power for reel sets, but if you typically go 1/10 or heavier you'd be much better off with the more versatile 902.

I have 903c and 905c Conquest and I use 905 for jigs and 903 for everything when I need the longer rod for distance.

I would not recommend 901s for bass fishing, I would use that for trout fishing either jigging or drop shotting. I really have no idea about 902.

JWall how much are you able to get nrx+ for since youre sponsored? Just curious

They removed the NRX line before they came in stock so I was never able to get one. Got a p5 destroyer through our megabass partnership instead. We had a great discount on loomis would have gotten it for a little over $300. I’ll let you do the math on that but it’s was a great discount until they pulled all but the gcx from their program and those are sold out in minutes.
