The Dumbest bow mount trolling motor question ever

Featured Replies

Ok. I figured out a long time  ago to have the tail of the outboard in the water when using the Bow mount so you don't spin in circles. Ok fine... that was a 46 lb thrust.

I have an 80 lb now. At 80% to 100% power  I sit at the console holding the motor centered and the tail in the water ( not the prop) and steering the bow with my foot or other arm. I see people cruising around with the entire motor out of the water and some with part of it in.

Now today was the first time I used it. So at high power I raise the motor completely out and it's a little squirrelly  at first but settles down. At slow speeds that outboard goes full left or right and you change it your then headed in a whole different direction real fast even at 10% power.

what pray tell is this idiot doing wrong????? Should I attend  cheap bass boat driving school?

I leave mine in the water unless I’m in shallow water or in weeds. It also acts as a rudder to stabilize the stern.

I never trim my outboard up unless it's dragging bottom.

There is an adjustment on your outboard that stops it from flopping around freely.

What size outboard do you have that flops around?  Do you have a real light weight boat?

17 foot crestliner cx1754 semi v crappie/bass. Merc 50 hp. Come to think of it it does seem easier to steer. I just thought i had gotten used  to it. I have all the documents and the safe t steer is in there.  I'll look into this week. Thanks

Loaded around 1100-1200 lbs.
